Baby K’tan

Baby K’tan recently introduced the new 3-IN-1 K’tanCloth, a nursing cover, burp cloth and blankie all in one. The K'tanCloth attaches to all baby carriers & slings enabling discreet nursing while on the go. Boasting a streamline design, it is smaller than most nursing covers while providing just the right amount of coverage. The K'tanCloth also promotes successful breastfeeding by reducing distractions while allowing mom to leave baby in the carrier. The unique open-pocket burp cloth design remains open when hanging vertically over your shoulder. This feature protects your clothing by catching messy spit-ups. Also, it will Velcro to your baby carrier, car seat, diaper bag or similar straps so you never lose your child’s favorite blankie while on the go. Baby K’tan, LLC, was developed by two couples, each raising three kids in Florida. One family has a child with Down syndrome and the other has a child who required heart surgery when he was four weeks old. Having children with special needs gave these four parents the push to band together and create a company that would provide parents with quality products that suits their babies’ needs. The Baby K'tan team proudly devotes a percentage of its proceeds to the American Heart Association and to organizations that assist individuals and families living with Down syndrome.

Things With Wings

I learned to be crafty & creative from my mother & grandmother, which lead me to believe art is a family affair. Laura, Jill, Connie, and Emily solidify my belief as they are a Mother and three daughters who create lots of beautiful pieces together. As stated on their blog, their mixed media artwork is full of hope, humor and whimsy created using their creative talents that are precious gifts from God. Everything seen on their blog is available for purchase, and they also have a couple of Etsy shops, Greengirl Design and Paper Prayers. Some of the designs, such as Live Life on Purpose, are inspirational which is always nice. There are several beautiful canvases that I would love to display in my home, too. Many of the items, such as Mama Connie's whimsical art dolls, incorporate recycled & vintage materials. If you happen to be in the Iowa area, be on the lookout of festivals and open houses these ladies are participating in.

Kiimö Factory

Kiimö Factory features the work of textile designer & artist Seiko, a Japanese artist that is currently living in Italy with her husband, two dogs and a turtle. She opened her shop last year & has created a mini tote collection for the upcoming season. The Dress Up Mini Totes are made using unique textiles and ornaments which you can enjoy every day. Most of the bags are made using original fabrics which are printed or woven for limited amount. I love the hand-printed fabric tote featuring skeleton winter cherries on a beautiful cotton canvas. Another favorite of mine is the tote with an upcycled leather bottom. Check out Seiko's personal website that is currently published only in Japanese. Receive a 20% discount when you mention Funky Finds in the message to seller area at checkout. The discount will be refunded once payment is complete. Offer expires October 16.

gohgirl

Liz Goh, the designer & namesake behind gohgirl, creates a collection of tees with a secret twist. On the surface, the tee illustrations are cute and harmless, but what lies beneath? Meet the cast of secret agents that hail from all over the world including Japan, Sweden, Italy, Nigeria, and the USA. Each extraordinary agent possesses a curiously strange gift. Meet Manila from the Philippines. When confronted, Manila squeezes its shoulders up towards the sky and green goo comes spraying out of its ears. Five sprays and you'll be immobilized with super slimy, apple-flavored goo! Agent S., an avid recycler from San Francisco, has a dress that doubles as a huge net to capture non-recyclers lurking around the city. gohgirl tee's encourage you to giggle while encouraging environmental awareness. Some people find resemblances of the agents to themselves, a co-worker or friend. Which one are you? Receive a 50% discount with coupon code 50%off510093688. Expires September 30.

*GIVEAWAY: Enter to win a 6-12 months Cairo onesie from gohgirl. Simply visit the gohgirl website & leave a comment on this post noting your favorite design. Giveaway ends at Midnight EST, Sunday, September 27.

Stephanie Levy

Artist Stephanie Levy is currently having a "Countdown to 100" sale. To date, she has made 91 sales through her Etsy shop. For the next nine sales - until her shop hits 100 sales - she will enclose a free print of the customer's choice with each purchase. Stephanie offers a great variety of artwork, including several autumn-inspired prints. And her new series of "floating" collages is inspired by places she has been or would like to visit. They are called "floating" because the panels are attached to small wooden supports on the back, which make them appear to "float" on the wall when hung. Everything in these collages is one of a kind and handmade, yet still quite affordable at $60-$85 USD. I love the Paris Wedding piece!

Designer Call - The Pin Show

The Pin Show is back and looking for local talent to take the stage in 2010. Wanted: Emerging designers who have an original take on style & a knack for creating innovative garments & accessories. The annual Independent Fashion show is taking over downtown Dallas' Union Station on February 25, 2010, and will feature more than 25 independent designers.

The Pin Show celebrates the works of myriad "slow fashion" designers whose blood, sweat & tears go into the work they produce. This is a great opportunity for designers that combine marketable garments with ideas of sustainability & social responsibility. Impacting their local workforces and economies by paying a fair wage and creating a smaller quantity of garments in higher quality is the ultimate goal of independent designers.

Aside from the astounding runway show, designer's works will be the subject of live photo shoots on two styled sets and, in a rare opportunity, event goers favorite runway looks will be available for purchase at the pop-up, on-site boutique PINS. With over 1,200 people in attendance, The Pin Show gives up and coming and designers a chance to their showcase original lines to the masses, and provides a launch pad and introduction into the Independent Fashion industry, as many in attendance are regional boutique owners and potential buyers. In addition to the emerging designers and top students The Pin Show has promoted in the past, the new show will also be featuring independent style makers already in boutiques - locally and nationwide - with a runway event to showcase their latest collections.

Independent Designers Rachel Nichelson and Julie McCullough Kim founded PINS in 2007 with hopes of connecting emerging and independent slow-fashion designers with those prevalent in the Dallas Fashion Industry. All fashion industry designers, photographers, artists, stylists are encouraged to apply for various opportunities.

The Pin Show Spring 2010
WHEN: February 25, 2010 - Runway Event at 8pm
WHERE: Union Station Dallas | Wolfgang Puck - 400 South Houston St., Dallas, TX

Garden Adornments

Aimee Boschet recently closed her Home & Garden Boutique to focus on her lovely pillow collection, which has garnered lots of attention. With retailers in multiple states and in British Columbia, as well as wide-spread attention from print and online media, Aimee has remained quite busy! Garden Adornments showcases her screen printed French-inspired pillow designs. My favorite designs are the Romantic French Dress Form and the Paris Flea Market. This talented designer is also planning to branch out into furniture upholstery. Since her blog post titled My Renovated Studio and things I love to Create, Aimee has had a lot of interest from customers wanting to have their chairs and stools recovered with her Burlap Pillow Designs. Aimee is a very talented designer and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for her.

Her work, which has appeared in galleries throughout the United States and in Germany, has evolved over the years from “photo-realist” style to the graphic style seen here. There's a beautiful set of cobalt blue straws that are made of borosilicate glass, which is the exact same glass that Pyrex cookware is made out of. My favorite part of autumn is decorating with the fall palette. New Hampshire Wood Creations offers beautiful dried flower wreaths & arrangements, as well as other natural decorative items. The fall centerpiece is a beautiful arrangement of of dried flowers in a birch bark vase. I also love the autumn leaves wreath that was made using real oak leaves.
