Vendor Spotlights (Days 15-21)

I hope you have been enjoying the previews of all the wonderful artisans who will be selling at the Funky Finds Holiday Shopping Experience! If you are able to attend the event, this is a great opportunity to get an idea of the items you may want to purchase or take a closer look at when browsing at the event. If you are unable to attend, most of the participants sell online, so you can still find some terrific funky finds!!!

Houchin's House of Wizarding Wares - Husband and wife team Erin and Keri Houchin who work together to create products that bring imagination to life and inspire.

House of Kerri - Kerri Lavery Sterin has found purpose and a new beginning through creating. She uses patina, dye-oxide, and gilders paste to create pieces that are full of color, depth, and texture.

Hymn Drop Shoppe - Brooke Wright is a singer/songwriter who works hard to create designs that are hopefully used as conversation pieces for others to share their faith & their favorite verses or hymns.

Jabberwocky Graphix - Brad Foster is an artist who uses pen and ink to create unique & interesting pieces.


JaHanna Martinez - JaHanna started her headband line six years ago because she was unable to find comfortable & fashionable headbands that actually stayed in place.

Jazz It Up - Accessories by Sarah - Handcrafted accessories by Monica Spychalski.

jgrumbling handmade jewelry - Although Janet came late to jewelry-making, opening her business in April 2009, she has a background in crafting and creative endeavors, including a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree earned at the University of Texas at Arlington and time spent as an advertising layout artist.

KLW's Beaded Jewelry - Kathie Ward is a 72 year old self-taught beader who creates beautiful accessories.


Kristin Victoria Designs - Kim Shorman is not your typical teenager! As a 2011 Texas Youth Entrepreneur finalist, she enjoys being fun and creative, but when it comes to business she gets serious. Currently a Texas A&M junior Economics major, Kim stays busy making and selling unique jewelry and gifts, studying, and working as a medic on campus which help pay for her schooling.

La Casita Hot Sauce - Based upon a family recipe, Veronica Westlake uses fresh produce & traditional spices to create an authentic Tex-Mex hot sauce that will please the entire family.

Laughing Crafter Studio - Buffy Hall creates beauty out of mud and broken glass, with muddy fingers and a grateful heart.

LemonGlaze - Carmen Aberasturi enrolled in a ceramic class at a local college and has since been unable to stop creating pieces with clay.


Little Bunny SueSue - Carol Camp was inspired by the birth of her granddaughter who gave her a reason to pull out the sewing machine and start creating again.

Lynnlee Layne Boutique - Natalie Wyatt has been sewing for over 30 years & specializes in quality handmade children's and ladies clothes and accessories.

m.a.d.mishka designs - Michele Dietrich is a zookeeper by day...artist by night who loves paper crafting and sharing her creations with others.

Mad Dash Mixes - Sherri Leal manufactures and sells declicious mixes of dried dip, soup, dessert and pasta salads.


Magpie's Trick - A husband & wife collaboration of jewelers, dreamers, and gypsies. Using traditional methods, the duo creates wearable art from sterling silver, silk, and natural gemstones.

Main Street Soap Co. - What began as a hobby has evolved into a successful family business featuring hand-crafted soap for the past three years.

Marigold Trading Company - What started out as a way to earn a little extra Christmas money has come a long way. The Southall family cuts and paints all of their products that are truly lovingly homemade.

Mary's Madness - Mary Davenport recycles & up-cycles found items creating one-of-a-kind accessories. She also provides a wonderful selection of antique & vintage supplies for crafters!


Maude C.& Co - Lauryn Bray is a Designer, Blogger & Wardrobe Stylist who established Maude C. & Co. in 2007.

Mimi's Gift Closet - Julene & Donna have been seamstresses, pattern engineers, designers & more for many years. As the love of their grandchildren started filling their hearts, they felt the need to fill up the gift closet.

Mistura Timepieces - Mistura specializes in natural watches, handcrafted with South American sustainable wood and 100% genuine leather.

Ms Becky's Holiday - Rebecca Conklin started her own holiday ornament business after being downsized at work. Her personal goal is to create a holiday memory for her customers that is unique and unusual.


My Dearest Danae - In an effort to shy away from a Christmas focused on material items, Katie Ellis & her husband took on a major challenge to go back to a simpler, purer time and hand-make all of the gifts for their friends and family. Their soap-making adventure has evolved into a wonderful business!

Noe's Hot Sauce LLC - A Hot Sauce like no other featuring a 25 year old home recipe. This hot sauce has NO onions, NO cilantro, NO bell peppers and NO whole tomatoes.

p.s. Paper Shoppe - Pei Sim focuses on simple, charming designs that are sprinkled with a little bit of whimsy. All products are made with integrity, quality and fun!

Painted Pennies - Having taught art within the Keller ISD for ten years, Penny Tandy is currently a stay at home mom who enjoys painting and crafting.

Dp-art Gallery - Diana Prickett has been painting since she was a child & started working with recycled items about 5 years ago.

Dragonflies and Daisies - Sharon Davis loves creating & selling handmade baby items made out of fabric.

Eagle Mountain Pottery - Sandy Tucker is passionate about art in all forms. She enjoys using clay to create both functional and artistic pieces that the viewer with be able to enjoy on a daily basis.

ecoFashionistas - Sisters, Karla Schafer and Katrina Peebles, collaborate to create unique up-cycled products turning trash into treasure!


Elle Furch Decor - Lauren Furch strongly believes in recycling and does her best to provide a variety of glass products with customizable colors and accessories.

EME and Lou - Elaine Ellington partnered with her children & grandchildren to create unique accessories.

Emma Alison Designs - Heidy Henke has been making jewelry for nearly 15 years. Her jewelry tends to be delicate and feminine while showcasing natural gemstones.

Forget Me Nots - Kristen Dinh, a student at UTA, has always been a crafter at heart and loves sharing her hobby with others. She began making soap when her younger sister needed a soap that was more sensitive on her skin.

Fragrance 4 Every Mood - Jessica Perez creates designer type fragrances for men & women, as well as other bath & body products.

FUSED GLASS - Christine Pincemin-Johnstone was born in France, lives in Texas, & creates new items using various techniques with fused glass.

GamiWorks - Chiyogami Gifts + Accessories - Erin Sansoucy doesn't consider herself a girly-girl, but she does appreciate feminine and classic looks...never trendy. She loves to create a hodge-podge of things, keeping her mind and hands busy.


Glassyboop GlassArt - Betty White is a glass artist specializing in functional glass items who has 30 years experience working with different glass mediums.

Green Dog Chic - Lora Dougherty creates unique pet clothing & accessories using recycled materials, such as thifted prom & wedding dresses. She donates a portion of all sales to local animal rescue groups.

Gypsy Rhetoric - Kimberly Bacon is a crafty Texas girl who loves the Lord and is happiest when she's sitting in the middle of piles of craft paper, scissors and glue.

Gypsyharte - Joyce Hazlerig has been creating art all her life. Her current passion is felting wool allowing her to take wool and fiber and shape and create it into something new and different.


Hambone and Dogs Pet Treats - Creating high-quality pet cookies & treats using only human quality ingredients.

HOT TAMALEZ - Mary Samudio has been in the tamale business for 19 years. What began as a temporary job has gone continued long-term as a family-owned and operated business.

Upcoming Event: Woolfest

Woolfest, the UK's biggest celebration of natural fibers, will be held June 22nd and 23rd at Mitchell's Lakeland Livestock Centre near Cockermouth, Cumbria. The event will feature a variety of demonstrations & workshops, as well as rare-breed sheep showing the story of fleece to garment. In addition, a wide variety of crafters & designers will be set up selling their wares. One of the stallholders is Victoria Baker of Little Wren Pottery. She will be displaying her full collection of yarn bowls. Little Wren Pottery has been producing hand-thrown ceramics in the city of Sunderland since 2009. The studio focuses on producing everyday objects which are both elegant & functional. You will find all the details regarding Woolfest on the event website, as well as Facebook. CC's One of a Kind is a great place to find fun & functional fiber art creations hand-crafted by Cindy Bolton. I love the colorful oil cloth bottle bags & the biscuit cozies are an eye-catching way to keep breads warm.

Laura Childs of childsPLAYdesign creates well-made fabric items that are colorful & playful. The notebook covers add some whimsy to an everyday item & the halter apron puts a sexy spin on an old-time favorite.

DC Glass Designs offers a wide variety of home decor items, such as hand-painted sun catchers, fused glass plates, & picture frames. In addition to home decor, Debbie Collinsworth creates fused glass jewelry.

For The Love Of Joy showcases lovely items handmade by Anna Pham. The personalized snack mats are sure to delight children!

Imagical Creations is a great place to find special gifts & treasures created by Tonya Turner. The embellished zebra clip board is fun AND funky!

Karen Jenkins of Karen's Cool Pots creates one of the neatest products - earring pots! These pots are available in various sizes & colors. Karen also teaches classes in the DFW area.

Karla Walz is a talented glass artist. kuklebean's creative glass offers various glass items, including gorgeous glass angels, bottles and more.

Little e Pottery showcases handmade stoneware pottery by Emily Brown. Her functional items are also works of art. From unique items like the yarn bowls to an everyday tooth brush caddy, Emily's work is stunning!

I love how bright & colorful all of Longoria Girls' designs are! Stephanie Longoria's unique product line includes Loteria card pillows & an adorable Chica Chihuahua doll.

Sisters Sheryl Goerke & Susan Smith make up ReWind Art Studios. Their mosaic home decor items are exceptional. My favorites include the Spring Garden shoe and winged heart.

Rachel Bates' slogan is "Say it with a SMILE and a handmade TILE!" hence the name Tilesmile. Her handmade earthenware clay tiles feature various phrases & images that are sure to make your space happier!

Kim Lust Pottery

Kim Lust is a ceramic artist based out of Glen Spey, NY. Her recently released spring collection, "The Woodland Series," is a collection of thrown and hand-built whimsical bird and bunny vases. Each piece is handmade from high-fired stoneware clay and fired to 2400 degrees in a 50 cubic foot downdraft kiln. These unique and affordable vases are a beautiful way to welcome Spring. I especially love the vase featuring a sweet little bunny perched on the side (pictured). Kim also offers lovely tea bag coasters - a great gift for any tea lover! With over 120 artists, crafters & designers at our recent Funky Finds Spring Fling, it's hard to highlight them all. But, I am going to continue to do so each week as I know you will enjoy discovering the work of all these talented people!

All About Henna features unique home decor items & beautiful henna tattoos created by Surinder Marbha and Meghna Banerjee. They had a very neat booth setup at the Spring Fling with a spot for customers to sit while having a henna tattoo done. The "tattooed" candles are also terrific. Rachel Bates is a talented potter that creates blue/green earthenware Italian-style clay tiles featuring various phrases & images. These tiles make great additions to any home, as well thoughtful gifts. Check out Tilesmile's Shop @ Funky Finds where you too can have a one-of-a-kind handmade tile...AND a smile!



Fitzy Sparrow features vintage-inspired jewelry with a punky, yet elegant, twist hand-crafted by Amelia Wood. A member of Etsy Fort Worth, one of our Spring Fling sponsors, Amelia creates lovely earrings, bracelets, and much more. I'm thinking Fitzy Sparrow is a great source for a few Mother's Day gifts!



Andrea Schmid is a talented artist that participated in the Spring Fling. Originally from New York, Andrea, also a member of Etsy Fort Worth, creates acrylic paintings that are inspired by life. According to an interview posted on the Etsy FW site, she finds inspiration in people's stories, music, what she witnesses and what she experiences. Check out her personal blog for more information.

red.neck Chic always has the most interesting, intricate, and funky booth setup! We have come to eagerly anticipate what Robelyn will come up with for her display. Using vintage, found, and upcycled materials, Robelyn creates the funkiest bags, purses, home decor items & more. I love reading the red.neck Chic blog & learning about new products & designs, various events, and other antics from this funky trailer park and duct tape lovin' gal!

Frontier Scholarship Applications

Frontier is a scholarship program started by The Lone Star Ladies in 2010. The scholarship is based on the belief that art and the process of creating art enriches peoples' lives in a way that no other field of study can. To qualify for Frontier, students must be Seniors graduating from an Austin Independent School District High School in the Spring of 2010, and plan to study the applied arts. Funding may be used for an apprenticeship or non-traditional training, i.e., students do not have to use the funds at a four year Liberal Arts College. If you wish to pursue: Art/Fine Art, Fiber (crochet, embroidery, knitting, sewing, quilting, etc.), Glass Work, Graphic Design, Illustration/Drawing, Jewelry, Metal Work, Mixed Media, Mosaics, Photography, Pottery/Ceramics, and Sculpture, then this is the PERFECT scholarship for you!

Shop Austin, a handmade showcase to be held in Austin on April 17, is a FUNDRAISER for this scholarship! Half of each $10.00 ticket sale goes directly to the fund. In addition, a raffle will be held at the event featuring awesome prizes and the scholarship recipient will be showcased as the event.

Weekend Events

What: The first ever Renegade Craft Fair in Los Angeles

Over 200 artists are traveling from all over the country and abroad to participate and sell their handmade goods at Renegade Craft Fair – Los Angeles.

What: The Big Crafty
When: Sunday, July 12, 12-6pm
Where: Pack Place, Asheville, NC
100 indie crafters, music, food & drink - What more does one need?

What: Texas Pottery & Sculpture Guild’s biannual “Sizzling Summer Sale”
When: July 10th, 5-9 PM & July 11th, 10 AM-4 PM
Where: Fort Worth Community Arts Center, 1300 Gendy Street
Participating artists from North Texas featuring functional and decorative artwork. Included in the activities will be a silent auction benefiting TPSG and the Emergency Artists Support League. In addition, on Friday night there will be a special “meet the artists” wine and dessert reception.

Rimrock View Studio

We have continued making upgrades to The Shops @ Funky Finds, in order to make the experience better for sellers, as well as shoppers. There's several new Shops that you do not want to miss, such as Rimrock View Studio. Jill Whitfill is the talented artist behind this shop that creates beautiful pottery. The blue bamboo lidded jar is the perfect place to store your treasures. I also love the mixed media salt cedar vase that actually incorporates pieces of cedar into the piece.
