Textile Fetish

Texas-based photographer & crafter Jennifer Ramos began Textile Fetish in the winter of 2001. Her one-of-a-kind, handmade items are made mostly from reclaimed and recycled materials. I last saw Jennifer in March when she participated in our 2nd Annual Funky Finds Spring Fling in Fort Worth, Texas. Her product line includes a variety of bags, including the unique coffee bean bags that give new life to burlap coffee bags. I especially love the bag adorned with a mustache and the adorable wiener dogs. One of my favorite items at the Spring Fling were the funky sock monkeys. The monkey in a cute spring dress is fabulous! Be sure to check out all the terrific items Jennifer offers, as well as her fantastic photography.

Heidi & Seek

Hayley Lau is the designer behind the ethical clothing line Heidi & Seek. She creates each piece herself in sweatshop-free conditions and the fabrics used are 100% reclaimed making them eco-friendly. Like many of you, Hayley is passionate about ethical living, but she loves looking cute, too. Heidi & Seek pieces are a little unusual, colorful, and interesting, but very wearable. I like the reconstructed MIA tee in grey that has a nice splash of orange around the neckline. The blue & brown Oh Bow tee is casual with a touch of cute. And my favorite piece is the colorful mustard and turquoise ethical MIA tee. Due to the nature of reclaimed materials, each piece is different and new pieces are regularly listed.

SugarLust

SugarLust features the work of Portland-based artist Christina who likes to work with reclaimed and vintage material. I love the funky vinyl accessories that are embellished with cute appliques, such as the bright octopus coin purse. The vinyl messenger bags are durable water resistant pieces that you can carry anywhere and everywhere. There's lots of great designs to choose from ranging from a cute squirrel to cut out robots. Notice that the bags are all lined with coordinating fabric that adds a punch of color. And, if you're looking for a unique men's gift, treat your guy to a reclaimed tie that is detailed with unique vinyl designs.

Greenbelts

Greenbelts are unique accessories that are handmade from recycled leather belts. Many of the embellishments, such as bottlecaps, are also recycled materials. Created by Shannon Ritscher, Greenbelts are funky one-of-a-kind pieces that will add interest to your wardrobe. The waist cinching white patent leather belt is made from four recycled/reclaimed leather and man-made belts. I also love the asymmetrical low-slung white and silver belt that is very cool. In addition to belts, Shannon creates cuffs, dog collars and leashes using reclaimed goods. And, for the extremely fashionable pet and pet owner, there's the matching cuff and collar sets. I think Abby and I need the chocolate leather pieces that are adorned with pink buttons!
