Most crafters are familiar with a product called Mod Podge, an all-in-one glue, sealer & finish. I have decoupaged things like planters & jewelry boxes using this handy product. The Plaid website features lots of helpful info, including videos & articles. But what I really want to direct your attention to is the blog Mod Podge Rocks! that Amy Anderson publishes. The blog frequently highlights projects that bloggers around the globe have posted about that incorporate Mod Podge. This is a great source for summer projects to do with the kids, such as DIY popsicle stick bracelets by Julia from bles-id and stone matryoshkas by Janna from Mustard Seeds. And if you aren't familiar with this product or aren't really sure what all it can be used for, check out the learn how section & formula guide. Amy also regularly gives away Plaid products, so check back frequently!
