AngelCow Designs

AngelCow Designs showcases hand-knit clothing & gifts created by Texas-based artist Rachel Willis. The Custom Shawl Collar Jacket Sweater is a beautiful piece that is sure to turn heads. The jacket, featuring a fold-over shawl collar, button front, and belt, can be custom-designed to fit your color and size specifications. I also like the desert-inspired Entrelac Felted Clutch Purse that's shape & colors are so unique. But my absolute favorite pieces are the hand-knit hedgehogs! These little guys are too cute for words!!! And, if you'd like to work on your own creations, check out the colorful hand-dyed sock yarn.

Laura Evans Photography

Laura Evans is a Military wife & photographer currently stationed in Germany. Laura says she is going through am exciting time with her photography - exploring, learning & discovering! The subjects of her photographs range from light-hearted to symbolic. I love the vibrant piece titled all the colours of the rainbow and what's in a name is a beautiful subtle image. Cat lovers are sure to love the playful cat, but Puppy Dog Eyes wins my heart. Another favorite of mine is a symbol of spring and a prelude to summer...I can just about feel the breeze when looking at this image. All of Laura's images are available in a variety of sizes & can also be printed as note cards.

Funky Finds' Fourth Anniversary & Giveaway (closed)

Tomorrow marks the FOURTH ANNIVERSARY of Funky Finds! I started this blog as a hobby, a fun way to bring funky handmade items to people's attention. The site has continued to grow over the past few years, first by offering advertising opportunities & giveaways, then launching the Funky News, our monthly newsletter. We then established The Shops @ Funky Finds, an online marketplace showcasing handmade items from sellers around the world.

We eventually hosted our first indie art & craft show in Fort Worth, Texas, last April. The event was successful & we recently hosted the second annual event on March 13. I couldn't have been more pleased with the quality of artisans that participated, nor with the number of attendees. It was a great day and we are currently nailing down the details for a fall event! I hope that Funky Finds continues to grow so we can effectively promote more & more talented artists, crafters & designers around the globe. Of course, none of it would be possible without your support so a big THANK YOU to all who read this blog regularly!!!

As a thank you, I am hosting my own giveaway to celebrate Funky Finds' fourth anniversary. The winner will receive a Funky Finds tote bag, a blue Funky Finds tee (M or L), some funky swag, and a $10 credit to The Shops @ Funky Finds!

There are several ways to enter & multiple entries are encouraged! Giveaway ends at Midnight EST, Monday, April 5.

1. Follow this blog (top right sidebar) & leave a comment with your profile name.

2. Become a Funky Finds fan on Facebook & leave a comment with your name.

3. Visit The Shops @ Funky Finds & leave a comment noting one of your favorite items.

4. Subscribe to the Funky News, our monthly newsletter.

*Giveaway is now closed. Congrats Susan!

Azure Islands Designs

Ontario-based Azure Islands Designs features beautiful jewelry designs by Heather Cote. In her fourth year of hand-crafting jewelry, Heather's pieces are made using sterling silver and gemstones, as well as other elements. I love the hammered Triple Sticks earrings that will spice up any ensemble. The Stacking Rings are classy accessories that are also versatile. And, if you're looking to add a pop of color to your wardrobe, you are sure to love the Red Cherries necklace & earring set. Heather donates a portion of her sales on each piece made using hearts to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, a volunteer-based health charity that leads in eliminating heart disease and stroke, so get to shopping!

Cleverly Gifted

Cleverly Gifted is an awesome source for unique gifts that will suit just about everyone on your list. I love the set of four expandable flower vases available in funky prints. 2nd Annual Funky Finds Spring Fling - RECAP

Funky Finds hosted the 2nd Annual Funky Finds Spring Fling in Fort Worth, Texas, on March 13. As usual, our closing thoughts were "I can't believe it's over!" The day flew by and it was a huge success. We have received so much positive feedback from participating vendors, many saying they set new sales records, received wholesale orders from local boutiques / galleries, and most commonly, when is the next Funky Finds event? I think that says a lot about what we accomplished. It was very humbling to see how many family members and friends came from all over Texas & Oklahoma to support us & help us run the event. We could NOT do it without all of them pitching in!

Another highlight of our events is the charitable raffle benefiting local charities. This year each participating vendor donated an item for the raffle benefiting the Humane Society of North Texas and CASA of Tarrant County. We raised $1,070.00 for the charities and several dogs and cats were adopted! Pictured here is Dozer, a Labrador puppy, that was adopted by local artisan Rachel Willis of AngelCow Designs.

We have a Flickr pool set up with lots of photos from the event. Also, be sure to check out the video below shot by KERA staff member Cindy Chaffin. You are sure to get a kick out of my true Texas accent!

Over the course of the next few weeks, I will be highlighting many of the participating artisans that showcased their wares at the Spring Fling. Below are just a few to get us started. If you are interested in participating in and/or learning about future events we have planned, please subscribe to our monthly newsletter so you'll receive information & announcements. Also, if you are ever in the Fort Worth area, spend some time downtown and in the nearby Cultural District where we held the show. I was amazed by how much has changed (for the better) in less than a year.

Cabbage Rose Quilting and Gifts is a returning sponsor who helped make the Spring Fling possible! We are so appreciative of owner Karen O'Neille's support. If you are in the Fort Worth area, be sure to stop by Karen's brick & mortar location at 3526 West Vickery Blvd. near the Will Rogers Memorial Center. You can purchase fabric, patterns, and much more online or in store.

Original Youth features Sarah Zamora's fantastic artwork. A member of show sponsor Etsy Fort Worth, Sarah paints beautiful, eye-catching works on found and recycled materials. I have her Shopper Girl piece & love it!

Jenn Kautsch of Hippie Bliss had an adorable setup, too. I was amazed to learn that Sarah of Original Youth painted her sign (pictured) the NIGHT BEFORE the Spring Fling! Jenn creates fabulous designer matchboxes, beaded pendant jewelry, & mixed media art. Her daughter, Katie Jo, was there to help her out & handed out candy-filled eggs that were a huge hit with Moms and kiddos.

Craft Hippie Hut

Craft Hippie Hut is your source for funky artwork created by Dede Huchteman of Dallas, Texas. She has several prints available on YUPO, a synthetic, waterproof, and tree-free paper. Sound intriguing, doesn't it? These abstract designs are nothing if not eye-catching. I love the bold Bright Lights - Big City piece. And the Flowers print is stunning. Don't miss the works, such as Circles, that are painted on stretched canvas. Learn more about Dede and her work through her blog.

SXSW Standard Recording Company Day Party

If you are in or can get to Austin, Texas, this week for SXSW be sure to attend the Standard Recording Company Day Party at Dirty Dog Bar. The party is this Thursday, March 18, and starts at Noon. You'll get to enjoy complimentary beer, great music, and lots of fun craft stuff. Yudu / ProvoCraft will be there passing out free silk screen totes & shirts. Also, Jenny Hart of Sublime Stitching will be there passing out FREE embroidery patterns. Whisper the secret code word "GUMPTION" to Jenny to receive a special treat! As if that wasn't enough, Etsy*Austin will be manning the make-and-take crafts table! The event is free and open to the public, but they are asking you to RSVP.

Julie Vision Designs

If Julie Magar went to an Anonymous meeting of some sort, she might begin her introduction with "I'm Julie, and I'm a Purseoholic." In her quest to have a unique handbag for each of her ensembles, Julie began hand-crafting her own handbags as seen at Julie Vision Designs. I love the funky rock-n-roll Charon clutch (pictured) and the colorful Over the Rainbow bag is perfect for Spring. Many of us can relate to the title Dysfunctional Family and the Frank Lloyd Wrong clutch is definitely eye-catching. Julie also creates a style of bag with a very unique title - the Mullet Tote. You may have heard a Mullet hairstyle described as business in the front, party in the back. Julie applies that same theory when custom designing the Mullet Tote with your type of business on the outside, your own personal party on the inside.

*GIVEAWAY - Closed - Congratulations Jennifer! Julie is giving away one custom-made Mullet Tote. Giveaway ends at Midnight EST, Sunday, March 21.

Lapis Beach

Lauren Hoehn has been creating jewelry for two years, but only recently began selling her creations online. Lapis Beach showcases her one-of-a-kind creations that she strings & knits by hand. But she not only knits with yarn, as one might expect. Additionally, she knits beautiful pieces using wire and other elements. I love the fancy Golden Sunset bracelet that contains varying hues of cream and tan freshwater and glass pearls with Swarovski crystals sprinkled throughout. As a big fan of pink, the Pink Promise Thin Cuff also catches my eye. In addition to bracelets and cuffs, Lauren also creates unique rings and necklaces. The Fun Jade and Purple Ring is lovely, as is the GLAM Ocean Ring.
