Fighting poverty, illiteracy, domestic violence, intolerance and global warming are all on her to-do list. Miss Do-Gooder's first target is animal cruelty, with 20 percent of net proceeds going to the ASPCA. T-shirts cost $25 and are available on the website. Susan Wildes, founder and chief do-gooder at Miss Do-Gooder, said, "The Miss Do-Gooder line of t-shirts fuses fashion with philanthropy, and allows people to wear hip, fun t-shirts that make a statement they can be proud of. We all need to find our inner Miss Do-Gooder and do more than just support our favorite charities: we need to fight for the causes we believe in." Sounds perfect to me! The Show Pony Show Recap

Sunday Joe and I attended The Show Pony Show in Dallas, Texas. We were especially excited about this show as it was our first event to sponsor. The Dallas Craft Mafia did a fantastic job of organizing & promoting the show and the venue, The Continental Lofts, was great. In addition to many of the vendors I have featured before, it was lots of fun meeting many new designers.

Ashley Akers is a talented jewelry artist who combines contrasting colors and textures with simple, modern designs. Her portfolio showcases her unique designs, such as the Pebble collection. The Starburst pendants are another personal favorite.

Lolafalk (pictured left side) creates beautiful handmade bags using unique fabrics that are very eye-catching. We loved the iridescent fabrics that are incorporated into many of the pieces. It was very interesting speaking with Mary of FancyFibers (pictured right side) who creates knit socks using a World War I era hand-cranked circular sock machine. Mary had a huge selection of beautiful, multi-colored yarns to choose from so that custom pieces could be easily created. She also creates fabulous hats, shawls, shirts & more.

Whitney Ludiker (pictured) is the creative force behind Brokn Doll. Her softies & plushies are available in a wide variety of sizes, shapes & themes. Whitney recently began crafting "pillow pals" that were a big hit at the show.

Madison Mae Handbags is a wonderful source for beautiful accessories. Krystal Mae Dodson has a knack for pairing interesting fabrics together to create unique pieces. And the Mini Mae collection features matching handbags for moms & their children.

It was also a pleasure meeting Helena of Dark Candles. She had a terrific display and we could not resist the Vicious Vixens votive collection. Helena also creates terrific Halloween packs featuring scents like Dark Carnival and Jack O Latte.

Other great shops to check out include:

katScrath Designs - Handmade cards & more
Krafty Munchkin Designs - Kitschy jewelry, accessories, and more
Taranehs Bazaar - Very cool wristwarmers, Purses, etc.

The Home Sweet Home design is a beautiful piece created in appealing colors. Drops are also available in long sleeve and tank top form. The flare pants are a modern take on bell bottoms that children will look great in while still being able to run around & play. There are plenty of designs that boys will love, as well. This great company donates five percent of profits to Americans for the Arts, a foundation that among other things supports art in public schools.

Fliggity

Fliggity is a unique clothing company that is inspired by a child's active imagination. The products are playful and include something for just about every child. As a child my brother absolutely LOVED capes and dressing up. He would have been Fliggity's biggest fan, as they have shirts that fliggity fly. There's plenty of designs to choose from that will capture the imagination of boys and girls alike. The colorful flying flower power shirt is my personal favorite. The stylish superhero tees are also very fun designs. The section titled How old am I? features appliquèd tees that allow kids to show off their age. And the tiggity tie dye pieces have reinvented tie dye for the newest generation including custom embroidered names or phases. Receive 15% off your entire purchase by entering code "15fliggity" when checking out. Offer good through August 31.

Lucky Accessories

Lucky Accessories showcase beautiful designs created by Dutch native Kiona van Rhee-Wilson. Her shop also includes hair accessories and a variety of fabric and paper accessories. I absolutely love the earrings that incorporate vintage wallpaper remnants, as well as the rings. And the collage pendants are miniature works of art you can wear any time. Kiona's Etsy shop includes many beautiful pieces such as the peapod necklaces made of delicately wrapped wire and colored fresh water pearls. The Made of Money necklace is another terrific piece - one that would make anyone feel lucky while wearing it. And you definitely don't want to miss the sale section!

Sandbox Threads

I so often write about stay-at-home moms turned entrepreneurs. It's a nice change of pace to write about a stay-at-home father who has begun his own enterprise. Andy, father of two, started Sandbox Threads specializing in cool baby clothes, onesies and t-shirts. His designs are original & fun as demonstrated by the Steve Martin design. There's a wide variety of styles ranging from humorous to artistic. Some parents may be drawn to the apparel featuring imagery of vintage toys & advertisements. As a child I loved my Wonder Woman Underoos, so I would definitely be dressing my child in a Wonder Woman tee! Of course, Say Anything is also very reminiscent of my childhood.

ETA: Andy has generously set up a promo code for Funky Finds readers! Receive 20% off your order with the code funkyfinds. Expires September 30th.

Minor Mail

I was excited to receive the announcement that Minor Mail is back online with a brand new mini store. This company sells a fabulous range of unusual stationery & paper goods by various amazing designers from around the globe. The women's section features enchanting cards including the Beast Wishes collection by Umpen Editions. It can be very hard finding appropriate cards for men. That's why I love the men's section Minor Mail has. Designs such as Blue cut out by Anthony Hall are artistic without being girly. And if you have a particular occasion you'd like to send a greeting for, look no further. Send a toast or a chirp today.

Melanie Hazen

Melanie Hazen is a talented lampwork glass artist, metal worker and jewelry designer. Her shop consists of a cool mix of simple, modern jewelry designs that are eye-catching & appealing. The empty bowl bracelet is made up of copper bowls that are cut, drilled, hammered, domed and tumbled, then heated to bring out vibrant rainbow colors. The Siam Twinkle necklace is another terrific looking piece. I would love to have the matching earrings, as well. Melanie also creates lampwork bead sets that allow you to create your own one-of-a-kind pieces.

Black Eyed Susan Artworks

Black Eyed Susan Artworks features mirrors & frames created using found driftwood, mosaic items, and jewelry. It is amazing to see such natural works of art turned into useful items such as clocks. The driftwood frames are very unique and make terrific gifts for any occasion. I also love the mosaic glass picture frames that are embellished using beach glass found on the shores of Lake Superior in Duluth, MN. My favorite jewelry designs are the Circus Dangle earrings. The pounded Copper looks elegant when paired with colorful Czech Glass Beads. Black Eyed Susan Artworks is a shop you do not want to miss!

Bella Figura

Bella Figura is a fantastic source for stylish sustainable letterpress invitations. Based in Syracuse, NY, Bella Figura was launched in 2002 by Debbie Urbanski and Harold Kyle. Their stunning work has been featured in Modern Bride, Martha Stewart Weddings, and Bride's magazines, and their portfolio includes work done for many big name clients. Their commitment to the environment plays a big role in their business, as well. One of the greenest letterpress shops in the country, Bella Figura is 100% wind-powered and carbon neutral. They also donate one percent of sales to environmental causes via 1% for the Planet. I received a very nice box of samples and was impressed with the luxuriously thick 100% cotton paper made from reclaimed fibers that is exclusively made for Bella Figura by a historic European paper mill. This shop is currently running a great deal on sample packs. You receive five letterpress invitation samples for $10 with 100% of the proceeds being donated. Check out the other promotions that this terrific letterpress company is currently offering.

Lily Pottery

Earlier this summer Funky Finds signed on to be a sponsor of Girl Indie's first annual Designer Chick contest. Amongst tons of great prizes, we donated a free 125x125 month-long ad spot for the winner. The contest was open to independent designers in various categories with readers voting for their favorite. This year's lucky winner is Lily Pottery. Lily Stratton creates wearable pieces of art that are hand-crafted using one-of-a-kind stamps and customized glazes she designs herself. I love the pendants that are hand-crafted using earthenware clay. The mermaid pink modern earrings are simple, yet elegant design. Lily also creates mugs, planters and other vessels that are equally beautiful. Congratulations again on winning the Designer Chick contest!

All of the animals are absolutely adorable & I would love to adopt each & every one of them! Missy is one talented woman who obviously balances quite a lot. Check out all her sites for more information.

Gala Glass

Some consumers may be skeptical about buying glass products online because they want to see the craftsmanship in person before making a purchase. I can tell you first-hand that Angelo Tiozzo & his associates at Gala Glass create superb items that are beautiful, elegant and timeless. I was thrilled to receive one of the unique spiral glass rings that are surprisingly affordable. Also available are complimentary pendants and earrings. The glass figurines are fabulous & will make wonderful gifts for a wide variety of people. Of course I am very partial to the glass dogs that are absolutely adorable!
