Cherry's Creations is the perfect place to find unique jewelry & home decor items. I was fortunate enough to meet Cherry at an Etsy Dallas trunk show a few months ago & see her wares in person. Note that 10% of the purchase price of any Autism Awareness item will be donated to The Autism Society of America. Enter the April home décor & housewares giveaway for your chance to win a wall cross donated by Cherry's Creations.

This unique online upholstery boutique blends both classic and modern pieces that are inspired by past decades, fashion styles, different cultures, antique furniture, and vintage craft books. The chair category contains a variety of vintage chairs upholstered in wonderful vintage and recycled fabrics. I absolutely love the Poppy Linen chair, as well as the beautiful Lady Bug Red Floral chair. The applique tie gentleman's chair is a funky piece created using the most feminine of men's neckties. Talk about a creative & useful way to recycle! Note that ground shipping on all Vintage Renewal boutique pieces is now FREE. Check back often as Jeanne adds one-of-a-kind items to the site monthly.

She's SO Creative

Stephanie Orma is the creator of She's SO Creative, a new line of clever greeting cards. Her Etsy shop features a small selection of She's SO Creative products, most of which will be offered for a limited time only. Once sold out they will be replaced with new ones, so check back often. Other products are carried at various retailers. Stephanie says her ideas and inspiration come from everywhere, everybody and everything, so be forewarned – the next conversation you have with her could end up on a greeting card. The collection includes everything from birthday cards to Mother’s Day cards. There's even new puppy greeting cards. I especially love the chick flick illustration, as well as the doggy card I can certainly relate to. Blank everyday note cards in boxed sets of six are also available. Each card is hand-drawn by Stephanie and printed on premium 30% post consumer waste recycled natural stock.

Lindy Sue's

Lindy Sue's has several items that are perfect for Mother's Day (May 11) gifts. The Wilshire Boulevard Linen Tea Towels will lend a touch of glam to any kitchen. Each towel features a classic 1940s fashion sketch created by illustrator Ruth Posner that celebrates the legacy of a historic Los Angeles thoroughfare. The 4-piece set is made from 100% natural linen, hand-silk screened and tailored in Calfiornia. The matching Wilshire Boulevard Notecards would make a great gift, as well. They also feature the drawings by Ruth Posner, originally done for such fashion icons as I. Magnin and Bullock's Wilshire. Each set has eight letterpress-printed cards (two each of four designs) and eight envelopes. Use coupon code laundry08 at checkout to receive a 10% discount.

Naughty Secretary Club

Jennifer Perkins of Naughty Secretary Club is a major creative force in the world of fabulously funky handmade goods. I was lucky enough to meet Jennifer at Stitch in Austin last year, an event she co-founded. In honor of Administrative Professionals Week, Jennifer is currently having a 25% OFF SALE. Simply enter the word SECRETARY in the voucher field when checking out to receive the discount. The code is good through April 26th. Check out Jennifer's blog for more cool info & inside scoop.

The Mymble's Daughter

The Mymble's Daughter creates fabulous jewelry that is whimsical & fantastical. Many of the designs are derived from Alice in Wonderful, a favorite peculiar story for many, such as the Cheshire Cat necklace. The Victorian Scissors piece is a unique take on the typical Cameo. I myself would LOVE to have a tea party with an adorable Chimpanzee like this little girl is having. The Mymble's Daughter also has wonderful silhouette and doggy bookplates available. Be sure to check out the main website for special pricing & additional designs.

Gorjana Jewelry

Gorjana Jewelry is a collection of fashion, and now fine jewelry sold in over 400 fine boutiques and websites including Henri Bendel, Fred Segal and ShopBop. This fabulous line, created by independent designer Gorjana, is consistently featured in major publications, such as Lucky Magazine, and is often worn by celebrities including Cindy Crawford & Mandy Moore. Ok, ok...enough with the name dropping! But honestly, these piece are glamorous yet definitely wearable. Each piece looks to be delicate & beautifully made. I would love to have a pair each of the earrings. I especially admire the cut out designs, such as the trees & flowers. The necklaces are the perfect accessory for adding a bit of understated flair to any ensemble, as well. If you live in the Los Angeles area, you may want to check out this sample sale Gorjana is participating in on Saturday, April 19.

Zeichen Press

While many independent boutiques struggle to survive during the current economic slow-down, many independent designers like Zeichen Press plans to weather the storm by taking advantage of electronic commerce. Until recently Zeichen Press has had to rely on wholesale orders from shops carrying their products around the country. There has been a noticeable dip in sales over the last six months due to the fact that buyers are being more cautious and are mindful of the large amount of floor space that greeting cards occupy in store for a relatively small price point. Zeichen Press, a design & letterpress studio located in South Minneapolis, now offers their product line of letter pressed cards & gifts online. Their products are hand-made on antique printing presses using antique wood & metal type and salvaged vintage printers blocks. Their cards are fun & humorous, such as the I'm sorry that I'm so perfect card. I'm glad you're having a baby & I'm not is a personal favorite of mine, as well as e-mail is for suckers. And currently you can purchase five cards & receive one free!

Designs By Mimi & Lola

Designs By Mimi & Lola is a mother daughter team that creates personalized blankets & pillows for children. It is obvious this duo knows what they are doing as they were nominated for & awarded the PTPA Award of excellence in parenting products. Being honored with an award from PTPA Media, Inc. is a huge achievement for a product geared towards babies, children and parents. These high-quality children's products are made from two layers of the softest, cuddliest polar fleece. Mimi & Lola are both mothers that strive for quality workmanship and durability in their products that are handmade in Canada. When ordering a blanket, you can choose up to three coordinating colors to coordinate, as well as a contrasting solid color for the backing. The pillows can be designed to coordinate with your blanket or for a separate gift. Have a look at all the wonderful sample designs featured on Mimi & Lola's website.

The Marcy Navarro Collection

The Marcy Navarro Collection was, not surprisingly, started by Marcy Navarro. Marcy custom designs tees for everyone in the family including the dog! I tend to neglect men on Funky Finds, but this funky designer will custom design tees for men & boys, as well. Marcy also creates a Nami Charity tee benefiting the National Alliance on Mental Illness. Have a look at the samples included on the site for more ideas.

Matilda Jane Clothing

Matilda Jane Clothing is a very fun & very wearable line designed by talented artist and mom Denise DeMarchis. The recently debuted spring line features colorful, sophisticated and somewhat cheeky pieces that little girls, as well as their mothers, will love. With more than 60 pieces, this line is sure to have something for just about everyone. Denise explains, “I want Matilda Jane clothing to make a little girl smile from ear to ear. I want her to love what she is wearing and be proud of how she looks.” This clothing line isn't just for babies and toddlers; it’s a great line for older girls too. The designs are cool and funky, yet they still allow little girls to look like little girls. And an added bonus is that they also have fabulous items for women!

I am so happy to announce that Joe (Blog Help 911 and OrbisPages) and I are engaged! We will be married during a small family-only ceremony on August 11th. Then we're off to Las Vegas to celebrate! I felt a bit ridiculous at first to be posting this on Funky Finds. But I have truly become friends with so many of you that it seemed acceptable. Cheers!

Silly Gilly

Australia-based Silly Gilly creates a range of children's accessories, including summer & fleece hats, bloomers, aprons and more. Gillian Ross uses fabrics that have a vintage style, making her products different from those found in everyday shops. Your creative child will get lots of use out of a smock that is made from waterproof material and edged in cotton binding. And the library bags are perfect for toting all those little odds & ends children require. Silly Gilly will also be adding small coin purses to the shop within a month.

The Jewelry Collection by Karen Leslie

The Jewelry Collection by Karen Leslie provides distinctive one of a kind & limited-edition accessories. The necklaces range in style from dichroic & Czech glass to Turquoise & black Onyx. There's many gorgeous earring designs, as well. I especially love the sterling silver hammer finish pair. And do not miss the bracelet collection full of brightly colored stones and beads.

Jayda, a stationery & gift company created by sisters Johanna Reyes & Yadira Chevere, features a product line that is modern & elegant yet environmentally friendly. The recently launched line of eco-friendly invitations & announcements is printed on 100% cotton paper made from recovered cotton materials from the textile industry. This renewable resource is recyclable and totally tree-free. Jayda provides a fresh alternative to the often drab and cookie-cutter world of invitations & announcements. There's many beautiful & contemporary wedding invitation designs to choose from, such as Foliage. Jayda also has a wide array of baby announcement & baby shower invitation designs available. Everyday People

I think many of us can relate to Cathy Thorne when reading her bio on her website. Cathy daydreamed about quitting her mundane job & doing something creative that she could enjoy day in & day out. In 1999, Cathy began creating illustrations coupled with humorous captions. People around the world have enjoyed Cathy's self-syndicated cartoon, Everyday People, in a number of publications. These weekly cartoons are based upon real women & their thoughts on subjects ranging from men to shopping. All the mother's will surely relate to the humorous cartoons pertaining to children. I especially love the amusing body cartoons! Check back weekly for new cartoons.

Rachel Marie of Lajiemarie needs our help & support. Rachel is a young college student working to save money for a long-term trip to both study & teach in southern China. She leaves in May and, while she has been working hard at making quilts & other items, she has yet to make enough money to pay her tuition, travel & cost of living. As the oldest of ten children, Rachel has learned what it means to work hard and to pay attention to detail. This is evident in her beautiful work, such as the Mocha Latte Creamy Lace and Coffee Crochet Throw. Her hand-quilted pieces are beautiful, as well. I especially love the vintage table runner that she hand-embroidered. So beautiful! Rachel also has various vintage housewares & craft supplies available for purchase.

Heather Hales Designs

I came across Heather Hales' blog a while back when looking for embroidery patterns & information. I quickly realized that Heather is extremely talented & would be a great source for inspiration in my new hobby. Her Etsy shop is full of beautifully embroidered pieces ranging from burp cloths to tote bags. The love birds embroidered pillow is absolutely adorable. And be sure to read Heather's recent interview over at Feeling Stitchy.

Spotted Dog Jewelry Design

Caroline Constantine Rosen of Spotted Dog Jewelry Design creates simple, yet bold designs. Currently all the products are on sale which is just another great reason to purchase some of her beautiful jewelry designs! The one-of-a-kind collection features pieces created using freshwater pearls, semi-precious stones, and unique vintage beads. I especially love the spring & summer collection that is full of bright, beautiful colors for these sunny seasons. The turquoise & raspberry necklace is charming, as is the green howlite & blue goldstone teardrop necklace. Spotted Dog Jewelry also offers a custom service to create necklaces for bridal parties.

HA! Designs

Heather Alexander is the humor-filled mastermind behind HA! Designs. I was thrilled to discover Heather's work recently when I was perusing Etsy for birthday gifts for a friend of mine. The minute I saw the altered domino piece featuring a sensible woman saying "Put Your Big Girl Panties On" I knew this was a must-have. This is SO something my friend would say & she loved it! All of the altered dominoes are fabulous featuring vintage images & quirky phrases, such as the nurse promising this won't hurt a bit. Heather also creates fun cards, tags & other various items. She also has a supply shop on Etsy, Art by Heather Supplies, where you can purchase collage kits, ephemera & other cool goods.

Bound Earth

It is apparent when looking at Andrea Williams' jewelry designs that she is fascinated by and appreciates the beauty of nature. Bound Earth showcases Andrea's unique work created using stones that, through nature's design, look slightly different than others. The Sa Bracelet is a fascinating piece created using sterling silver and beach stones. The Mani Padme Lotus pendants are equally enticing. Be sure to check Andrea's exhibitions & shows page for the opportunity to see her work in person.

Mariella Designs

Mariella Designs creates an upscale line of greeting cards, invitations, and more. Their products are off-set printed on heavy-weight textured felt paper ensuring that each piece is of the highest quality. I received several samples from Mariella Designs & am very impressed with the vibrant colors & aesthetics of their products. You will find a wide range of cards for occasions ranging from birthdays to Mother's Day. The Imprintables line provides laser and ink jet printer compatible cards complete with #10 policy envelopes enabling you to create your own custom pieces. First Friday Art Trail Recap

Friday Joe & I traveled out west to Lubbock, Texas, to attend the First Friday Art Trail. This monthly event showcases works of art created locally in unique galleries, studios, and other venues in Lubbock. Attendees can follow their own trail or ride a trolley which makes continuous runs between downtown stops. This free event is open to the public, with many venues providing Hors d'oeuvre & drinks. We met several talented artists, jewelry designers & photographers along the trail.

We had the pleasure of meeting several vendors at Alderson Mercedes on Texas Avenue. Evan Sanford is a talented artist who has been painting for many years, but only recently began selling her work. Her impressionistic style is captivating. As Evan says, put a little art in your world. (Pink Gerbera painting pictured)

Sarah Timmons, the talented jewelry designer behind Pink Street, was set up across the way from Evan. Many of her pieces are created by incorporating vintage bits, as seen in the Key To My Heart necklace, which I love. Local boutique T.C. Elli's recently purchased the bulk of Sarah's fabulous pieces, so keep checking back for new items in her Etsy shop. (Bird on a Wire Earrings pictured)

I also enjoyed meeting photographer Liz Parke at this venue. Liz only recently began pursuing photography full time, but you can see that her collection is very diverse and strong. Many of her photos reflect the character of the West Texas area. I especially love Liz's animal photography.

We ventured on to the Tornado Gallery also located in the Depot District. I had the pleasure of meeting Lynnette Wilson, director of the Family Guidance & Outreach Center of Lubbock. This wonderful organization was selling artwork created by area children to prevent child abuse & neglect. In recognition of Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Center will be hosting the 10th Annual Blue Ribbon Rally: Car & Bike Show. We had the chance to purchase raffle tickets at the Tornado Gallery to win a 2008 Harley-Davidson Road King.

After leaving downtown, we stopped into Cactus Alley. We discovered several new shops featuring lots of unique goodies. This was also the location where the Lubbock Craft Mafia members were set up. I thoroughly enjoyed visiting with Emily Johnson of The Crafty Hooker who began crocheting at a very young age. Emily's spring & summer collection is full of versatile designs ranging from sleeveless tops to stylish shrugs that are beautifully made. (Emily pictured wearing Eclectic)

Although Jan Brownlow of Arty Dominoes was not in attendance, her terrific altered domino pendants were. You can email Jan for more information about her jewelry designs if you would like more information.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Hub City. It was a great opportunity to meet some really talented & friendly artists and designers. If you are ever remotely close to the West Texas region, I urge you to attend this monthly event.

A personalized miniature driver's license for your pet may sound a bit strange, but this site is called Funky Finds after all! Deanne, founder of, began making these unique dog tags when she was unable to find a quiet, lightweight tag for her small Chihuahuas. The custom-designed tags not only look cool, they're more functional than ordinary dog tags. While most dog tags include only a name & phone number, these include everything found on a standard driver's license, including your pet's photo. If your beloved pet is ever lost, these tags help him or her have a greater chance of making it home safely. Encapsulated within a thick laminate, these tags will be impervious to almost any condition your doggy can throw at its way. These great designs are also available in keychain and magnet form - a perfect gift for pet lovers! My absolute favorite products is the PetMat. This fun & functional product is a larger version of the YappyHappy dog tags. These mats are water resistant, fade proof and over the top! Whether your dog is big or small, YappyHappy's products are the perfect way to identify your pet.

K is for Calligraphy

As a youngster I remember being obsessed with calligraphy for a lengthy period of time. Several Christmases and birthdays I asked for a new calligraphy set & couldn't wait to get to work practicing this fascinating form of art. Of course, I never came close to creating the beautiful writing style you will find at K is for Calligraphy. Katy, who is the K in K is for Calligraphy, never expected to be a self-employed professional calligrapher. But with enough encouragement (or nagging) from her mother Katy decided to take a class. You can see that she has a unique look about her work. I love the cards featuring lyrics written in calligraphy, such as Magic Woman. And the tags would be an impressive embellishment on any gift. Katy has also created larger-scale projects like the Just Married sign pictured here. See more samples of Katy's work on Flickr.

Modish Shoppe

Friday marked two important anniversaries for Modish. Two years for the blog and one year for the Modish shoppe which features handmade goods by various artists & designers. Modish is celebrating this occasion by offering free shipping in the shoppe through Thursday, April 10. Enter Happy1st in the promo code field at checkout and shipping will be waived.

Voz Clothing & Art

Jackie Sepulveda of Voz Clothing & Art paints like there's no tomorrow! She turns vintage & forgotten purses into works of art you can carry. The Hip Hop Showers clutch is a wonderful marriage of new wave and vintage style. I love the edginess of the skull & roses art featured on the vintage gold shopper bag. And the love grenade is just too cute & sarcastic for me to pass up! Jackie occasionally has other accessories available, such as the polka dot & anchor shoes. Check out all the cool pieces Jackie has flung paint on.

Shopping + Charitable Causes = Brilliance!

Michele Glick is a talented vegan artist & jewelry designer. Her paintings & drawings of animals express her love for nature & all living things. Michele's dedication to animal welfare & rights is evident in the fact that she started & runs the wonderful group Etsy for Animals. This group is comprised of artists & crafters interested in helping animals, many donating a portion of their sales to animal charities. Many of the members also donate products to the Etsy for Animals shop with 100% of the shop's proceeds going to charity. Michele is also a member of many other great Etsy groups including VeganEtsy, Cruelty Free Etsy, Etsy for Charity, and Etsy Veg. Supporting these wonderful artists is a great way to show support for many important causes.

Kryzia Kreations

Magical forests and the creatures that reside in them are only a few of the popular myths and legends that surround nature's beauty. These magical beings come to life in the new Wild Whimsy jewelry collection at Kryzia Kreations. Owner & designer Christina Paluszek has taken her love of nature & transformed it into wearable pieces of art by combining hand-carved sterling silver & semi-precious gemstones and pearls. This series of necklaces, bracelets and earrings includes finely etched trees and vines, inquisitive little fairies, a bird's nest comforting a tiny white egg, and even a charming spider resting in its web. Every detailed piece completely hand-fabricated by Christina. Her other collections are equally enchanting & can be found at various high-end art shows around the country, as well as in small boutiques.

ASPCA Volume 2

I've said it many times before & I'm sure it's apparent by looking at my site (especially my logo!), but I am an avid animal lover. Animal rights are very dear to my heart. I am always thrilled to direct your attention to organizations, designers & businesses who work to better the lives of animals world wide. Holly McCaig, Nancy Comelab, Emily Merritt, Michelle Coleman, Amy Hutchinson, Amy Wolff, and Shabby Miss Jenn are seven talented designers who worked together to create a fabulous digital scrapbooking kit. All the proceeds from the sale of this kit are being donated to the ASPCA. This kit is only $7.99 and will be on sale through April. There's also two great desktop calenders available for free download. Be sure to GO ORANGE on April 10th, as well.

Rose & Duke

Jessica Fields Dunlap learned how to crochet and embroider as a child during summer programs in the public school system in New York. Jessica began selling her handmade jewelry and painted t-shirts as a teenager on the streets of New York City's East Village. She now has her own business, Rose & Duke, named after her great aunt and uncle. I adore the trees & little deer onesie that is appliqued using Japanese fabric & vintage ric rac. Jessica's embroidered designs are all fabulous, as well. And I would love to have a tasty pink popsicle tee for myself! You can also purchase pieces customized with your child's initial or name. As you can see, Rose & Duke is a premier place to find unique & fabulous children's clothing & accessories. Many thanks to Jessica for donating a gift certificate for the children's goods giveaway!
